Stargazers all over the world are getting ready for the first super blue blood moon eclipse in more than 150 years and many are traveling to find the best locations to see it. This rare celestial phenomenon is occurring because a blue moon, a total lunar eclipse and a supermoon are all taking place at the same time.
A blue moon is when two full moons happen in the same calendar month; lunar eclipses occur when the moon passes into earth’s shadow, and supermoons happen when the moon’s perigee (its closest approach to earth in a single orbit) coincides with a full moon. The super blue blood moon phenomenon hasn’t happened since 1866, and it is occurring because a total lunar eclipse is combining with a blue moon, which is in its closest position to earth, making it a supermoon. Blue moons only happen every two and a half years on average. The moon will take on a red glow as the supermoon happens to be occurring on the day of the lunar eclipse.
“The moon will lose its brightness and take on an eerie, fainter-than-normal glow from the scant sunlight that makes it way through earth’s atmosphere,” says NASA. “Often cast in a reddish hue because of the way the atmosphere bends the light, totally eclipsed moons are sometimes called ‘blood moons.” Sadly because of the location of the moon when the eclipse is set to occur, not everyone in the world will be able to see it. “The eclipse will take place during the middle of the night, and the Pacific Ocean will be turned toward the moon at the time,” writes skywatching columnist Joe Rao. “Central and eastern Asia, Indonesia, New Zealand and most of Australia will get a fine view of this moon show in the evening sky. Heading farther west into western Asia, the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, the eclipse will already be underway as the moon rises.”
Sky-gazers on the West Coast and middle of the US will have the best chance at catching the total lunar eclipse if they are early risers, but people on the East Coast will have a less impressive view. As you can see from the NASA chart that the eclipse will not be visible in the UK. If you miss this phenomenon, you’ll have to wait until 31 December 2028 or 31 January 2037 for the next opportunities.

Magnum has made significant contributions to British rock music over the last 40 years. They may not have enjoyed the same commercial success as other rock bands, but the consistent quality of their output has gained them an intensely loyal following among fans. Lost On The Road To Eternity is their 20th full-length album, and continues Magnum’s recent streak of late-career successes from a creative view. A wonderful marriage of theatre and swagger, it would be of little surprise if in the future we should look back on Lost On The Road To Eternity as one of Magnum’s finest records.
The opening track ‘Peaches And Cream’ is an immediately anthemic start to the album, largely thanks to the confident strut of Tony Clarkin’s main guitar riff, as well as a luxurious solo embellishing the vocal melody. From here, ‘Show Me Your Hands’ blends cascading piano runs with a driving rhythm section, as well as hugely effective staccato work from Clarkin. Of course, no Magnum album would be complete without the requisite power ballad and ‘Without Love’ delivers; delightfully overblown and yet colored by an unexpectedly funky rhythmic backdrop. The 80’s sensibilities are continued with the synth rock of ‘Tell Me What You’ve Got’, anchored by a monumental refrain with considerably meaty production.
No strangers to shifts in their line-up, this is Magnum’s first album to feature Rick Benton on keyboards and Lee Morris on drums. While both assume their roles comfortably among the ranks, it is Rick Benton’s contribution to these songs that adds significant flourish to the already stellar material. From the Jon Lord sounding organ runs on ‘Peaches And Cream’, to the progressive dalliances on the majestic coda of the closer, ‘King Of The World’, his performance is never anything less than captivating, and is an incredible asset throughout ‘Lost On The Road To Eternity.’
Bob Catley retains his powerhouse status on his twentieth go around with Magnum. Now into his seventies, the story-telling oratory quality of his vocal style bears even more poignancy with his slightly weathered delivery. He excels at the melodrama of ‘Forbidden Masquerade’, and soars on the stunning chorus of ‘Glory To Ashes.’ However, the album’s highlight comes with his duet alongside Avantasia’s Tobias Sammet on the bombastic title track. Having guested previously on numerous Avantasia tracks, the two voices compliment each other to great effect on a symphonically charged banger, culminating in a finale that is stomping yet sweepingly majestic.
The caliber of the music on ‘Lost On The Road To Eternity’ can only be attributed to the experience and expertise of the creative minds behind it. Highly consistent from start to finish, the album is one of the finest achievements of a band whose career is already littered with plaudits and due to far more recognition than they currently receive. If this album sets the barometer for the quality of music in 2018, then we’re in for a hell of a year.
Magnums Lost On The Road To Eternity album will be released on 19 January.

Astronomers and visualization specialists at NASA have just released this unprecedented, 3D, fly-through view of the Orion Nebula, a nearby star-forming region.
Space Telescope Science Institute’s visualization scientist Frank Summers, who led the team that developed the movie, said:
Being able to fly through Orion Nebula’s tapestry in 3D gives people a much better sense of what the universe is really like. By adding depth and structure to the amazing images, this fly-through helps elucidate the universe for the public, both educating and inspiring.
3D Journey Through the Orion Nebula - The Full StoryAstronomers and visualization specialists from NASA’s Universe of Learning program have combined the visible and infrared vision of the Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes to create an unprecedented, three-dimensional, fly-through view of the picturesque Orion Nebula, a nearby star-forming region.
Viewers experience this nearby stellar nursery “close up and personally” as the new digital visualization ferries them among newborn stars, glowing clouds heated by intense radiation, and tadpole-shaped gaseous envelopes surrounding protoplanetary disks.
Using actual scientific imagery and other data, combined with Hollywood techniques, a team at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, and the Caltech/IPAC in Pasadena, California, has created the best and most detailed multi-wavelength visualization yet of this photogenic nebula. The fly-through enables people to experience and learn about the universe in an exciting new way.

Beauty lovers and Green Day fans, rejoice! That epic Kat Von D collaboration, the properly titled “Basket Case” liner, is officially here, and Kat Von D explains just how that collaboration of epic proportions came together.
Kat Von D talks music influence for Billie Joe Armstrong “Basket Case” liner"I pitched the idea of shooting the campaign paying homage to this poster I used to have up on my wall, and it was this old photograph of Sid and Nancy and they were handcuffed together, and I just remember staring at that as a teenager," she tells Billboard.
"Nancy had this blown out black eye look and I was like, 'Oh, this totally makes sense.' I could totally see that image being translated with myself and Billie Joe."The formula is perfect to create the smudge-inspired Billie Joe look, with Kat Von D Beauty's site explaining that the formula glides on creamy, letting you "build, blend, smudge and smoke it out" to achieve your desired look, all before it sets in place.
A dream, right?
"Whenever I develop any makeup product, first and foremost it’s always about the formula," Von D tells Billboard. "The formula has to be amazing. You don't have to like me or Billie Joe to want to use this, and I'm really proud of that."And as for the Basket Case title? It fits right in with the rest of her music-inspired brand. "If you look at my entire collection from day one, everything from shade names to shade collections have always been inspired by music, whether it's bands or lyrics or composers," Von D explains.

Corey Taylor Vows To Stop Engaging Trolls About Politics On Twitter
Corey Taylor has told the Kerrang! magazine in the UK that his New Year's Resolution is to stop engaging trolls about politics on Twitter.
The outspoken Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman, whose disdain for Donald Trump is quite prevalent throughout his latest book, last year's "America 51", said: "Honestly, I would rather take a f***ing saw to my own face than deal with that kind of bulls**t anymore. It's so unnecessary and pathetic, and I can't take any more of that shit. It's not even that I have a problem with their politics: it's their self-righteous indignation that comes with it.
"For all the harrumphing that the right does about the left being a bunch of snowflakes, they are the ones that are so hurt about so much s**t, it's not even funny," he continued. "I look at them and think, 'I'm not going to sit here and debate a crying child.'
"If there was a button on Twitter that asked, 'Would you like to block with relish?' then that's the one I'd be hitting. They can enjoy their spoilt-brat infancy. I've got kids of my own, without having to deal with kids that I don't need to take care of.
One message I would impart to Kerrang! readers is this: never stop educating yourself. If something that you believe is right turns out to be wrong, you have to embrace that. You can't just reject that out of spite.
I'm one of the most wrong people on the planet, and I also have one of the biggest f***ing mouths, so it's one of the biggest lessons I've had to learn. It's going to make you a better person to be on the better side of facts than the worst side of fiction."
Taylor confirmed last week that he has been separated from his wife for almost a year and just recently started a new relationship.
Corey had married Stephanie Luby (his now estranged wife), in November 2009 at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas.
The 44-year-old Taylor has two children, a daughter named Angie born in 1992, and a son named Griffin born in 2002, whom he had with his first wife, Scarlett. Taylor married Scarlett in March 2004 and divorced her in early 2007.
Stone Sour recently announced a new North American tour for early 2018 in support of its current LP, "Hydrograd".

“Through your art you will live forever”
Good Charlotte has shared a studio recording of Lil Peep's "Awful Things," available for streaming now. And along with sharing the track, the band penned a heartfelt message about Lil Peep's life and lasting legacy.
"Every now and then a new artist comes along, who you know is sure to change music. Lil Peep was one of those artists."
The band covered Peep's song earlier this month at Lil Peep's special fan memorial service, and Good Charlotte's Joel Madden says they were happy to be a part of the memorial and show their love for Peep, fans, family, and his friends.
“They asked us if we wanted to do something to participate in the memorial. We were overseas on tour in the U.K., so we put together that cover. It was kind of crazy - we put it together, recorded it, filmed it, all in a matter of two or three days. We just wanted to do something to be a part of the memorial and show our love to Peep and his fans and his family and his friends. To be there in spirit and to be there musically. We were just really happy we could put it together in time and be a part of it. It was as special for us as anything we've ever done.”

Insane Clown Posse just can't get any love from the FBI.
As reported by The Washington Post, the FBI's Juggalo gang label "could be here to stay." The paper notes that the 6th U.S. Circuit Court Of Appeals, in a strange statement of legalese, ruled that the FBI's move to call Juggalos a gang wasn't a "final agency action" and, therefore, can't be challenged in court. Um, what? This new ruling nixes a 2014 lawsuit brought by Insane Clown Posse that claimed the FBI's decision violated their constitutional rights and caused Insane Clown Posse concert cancellations due to concerns from law enforcement.
All of this stems from the FBI's National Gang Intelligence Center listing the Juggalos as "a loosely organized hybrid gang" in a 2011 threat assessment profile, a definition that's been haunting the band ever since. Insane Clown Posse says the FBI's labeling of Juggalos as a gang has caused their supporters an unnecessary and extreme amount of trouble. According to the group, fans of Insane Clown Posse have lost their children in custody battles, been denied admittance for military service and lost jobs for merely being a Juggalo.
Earlier this year, Insane Clown Posse brought national attention to the matter with the Juggalo March On Washington, an event that organized Juggalos in a protest on the National Mall in Washington DC, to voice their opposition to the FBI labeling them a gang for simply identifying with the group and their music.
In September, Insane Clown Posse's Shaggy 2 Dope spoke to us ahead of the group's march on Washington, admitting the unlikelihood of the FBI overturning the gang designation while standing firm against the classification.
"It'd be great, but the chances of that happening are slim to none," Shaggy said. "This is just us standing up, the Juggalos standing up and being, like, 'Yo, f*** you, too. We're in this b***h and we ain't a f***ing gang.'"
